Some great folks on Animation Nation recently asked me who Maridee is based on. For starters, it’s exciting that people I don’t know are aware of Maridee at all. Secondly, if you aren’t aware of this already as a regular reader of this space, it’s the writer of this strip (Georgia, that’s me) that writes these updates. So Maridee is at least partly based on myself. Through Maridee I can make fun of some of my worst inner impulses, those materialistic, emotional, feminine impulses that my better nature usually rises above (usually). If she weren’t seriously flawed after all, she wouldn’t be identifiable or funny. She’s also based on someone I knew in Atlanta who encompassed all of those “hot girl” qualities: superficiality, naivete, poor taste in men and when it came to new relationships, eternal optimism.
