Let Me Sell You a Saturn

One of my first jobs out of school was as a sales rep at a Software Etc. It was a male dominated environment and I loved every minute of it. Sega Saturns were still selling well, the hot girl’s CD-ROM was Barbie-related and everyone wanted a Tickle Me Elmo and a Nintendo 64. We were still selling Magic Cards, although their popularity was waning, and books for the games were really picking up. I learned how to use an electronic register and how dressing too frumpy hurts sales. That Christmas we had lines outside the door for a chance at one of only four games available for the new Nintendo system. I was only there for two months, but some experiences stay with you always.
