Memorial to Alaska the Ferret

Scott’s been feeling worn out from overwork, so today was a good time to let him ease up a little and do a dedication to the ferret we lost last weekend. We adopted Ginger and Alaska from a friend, and by the time we got them they were already entering their ferret golden years. Over the past several months, Alaska was losing interest in playing with the other ferret and stopped bothering to hide anything. In the last few weeks of her life she was sleeping constantly and was difficult to wake up. Last Friday she suddenly began panting, and we made plans to take her to the vet. She got worse so suddenly that before we could react we’d lost her. It’s impossible to say what the cause was, and I will certainly miss having her around the house. I am relieved that her longtime companion Ginger seems to be doing very well and doesn’t appear to notice that anything is different. We will miss you Alaska, and I’m glad I got to know you.
