Of Cats and Dogs

The Christmas tree finally went up on Saturday. I’ve had some friends ask me why I’m even bothering since we’ll be gone over Christmas and New Year’s, but putting the tree up makes a new house seem like home. The cat and the dog are slowly starting to tolerate each other’s presence, and as the decorations went up there were times when everyone was in the same room together. The cat is bigger than the dog, and she’s learning that if she stands her ground and growls, the dog isn’t going to try to get any closer to her. But I can tell he desperately wishes she would play with him like the cats in the vet’s office used to do. He thinks playing is the same as chasing and the cat vehemently disagrees. And so as home decor and pets come together, peace is descending over the household. At least until the next major disaster strikes.
