The cover for Strawberry Shortcake #2 came out today! Pre-order information from Previews here
My Tumblr updates a little more frequently than my website and that’s where I recently announced the return of Strawberry Shortcake comics! Issue #0 comes out on Free Comic Book Day and I’ll be signing copies as a special guest in Rochester, NH at the all-day Jetpack Comics Free Comic Book Day Festival. More details on that closer to the date in May.
In case you don’t remember it from last time, Strawberry Shortcake was one of the most successful series put out by Ape Entertainment. When our editor left Ape for IDW Publishing he pursued the license again after American Greetings sold it to Iconix. The new licensor is take Strawberry to new places and we’re having a blast doing just that.
Here’s some info from the FCBD interview with me and Amy Mebberson:
Free Comic Book Day: What has been your favorite part of the book or character to tackle?
Georgia Ball: We’ve brought the villains back! Not everyone in Berry Bitty City is a good person and not every conflict is a regretful misunderstanding. Strawberry and her friends will have to overcome very real obstacles put in place by unscrupulous people. They’ll have to deal with business rivals, ruthless salespeople and even a certain peculiar individual who’s always looking for success at Strawberry’s expense.
Amy Mebberson: I relish any opportunity to draw a female cast being kind and loyal and resourceful, but also FUNNY. Strawberry Shortcake was a huge part of my childhood in the 80’s and I’m honoured to be able to carry on this adorable cast of characters into their 21st century incarnations.
Ultimately Strawberry’s story is about girlhood friendships. We weren’t done last time, there are a lot more stories left to tell.
