A boy hears sounds in the attic at night. He imagines an alien is making the noise and as the story continues, his imagination develops a series of fantastic creations from outer space.
Rhyming picture books tend to struggle to come together, but author Colin Rose makes smart choices with his sentence endings and keeps the beats straightforward. The text is mainly a setup for the engaging illustrations, and although the ending wasn’t too surprising, I still enjoyed its humor.
The pictures are truly wonderful. Artist Misha Jovanovic brings the book together with elaborate backgrounds and original, fascinating alien character designs. The color applied to the aliens is particularly well done.
